Whomever travels for a longer period to Mexico realizes that it is one of the most diverse countries of the American continent in terms of geography and climate. You might feel like going through different worlds while traveling through the different regions and every one of them is fascinating in its own way. These numerous climate changes are based on the different lines of longitude and latitude.
From the end of May until November the rainy season startes in Mexico, with the allocation of rainfall being very unequal. In the hot and dry north there is very little or no rain at all during this period, whereas in the central highlands and in the coast areas it might rains shortly every day. Unfortunately, tropical storms at the Caribbean coast of Yucatan are not unusual. The most rain falls in Chiapas, the most southern and fructuous state of Mexico. In the central highlands there is a comfortable warm climate throughout the whole year, although it could become surprisingly cool at night between November and January. In the southern states and in Yucatan it is very warm throughout the whole year. Particularly during the rainy season, there is a fairly high level of humidity. In the highlands of Chiapas- for example in the very high located San Chistobal de las Casas- it gets quite cold during winter. What is special about Mexico is that you can get from one climate zone to the next only within a short driving time. For example you start driving at 10°C in San Cristobal and you will arrive only two hours later in the tropical sweltry Tuxlta Gutiérrez. That's why in winter time you should be well prepared for heat, rain and cold temperatures, if you plan to travel through different parts of Mexico. In general, the best time to travel is the dry season between November and May.
