The Puuc Route
Buenos Dias Mexico

In the morning you are, according to your arrival, picked up at the bus terminal or your hotel and the tour takes you all along the Puuc Route. It leads from the South of Mérida to many interesting excavation sights and gives you a closer look to the culture of the Maya. All of the archeological sites were built in the Puuc Style, the translation of which is hill. Your first stop are the ruins of Kabah that used to be the second most important center for the Maya in formers days. Fascinating is especially the Palace of the Masks because its facade is seamed with 300 faces of the rain god Chac-Mol. Afterwards, the tour continues to Sayil, where you should not miss out on marveling at the imposing Palacio with its 85 meter high facade. Following, the tour takes you to Xlapak and further more to Labna, which is famous for its splendid archways. The magnificent cave system of Lotlún is the last stop on this day. The caves full of stalactites and stalagmites are the biggest and the most amazing ones of the whole region. In former days, the cave system was important for the people because they used it as habitation and iconic sites. Still the caves are mystical and the magnificent cave paintings tell a lot of the life of the ancient inhabitants. All together, the cave has a length of approx. 8 to 10 km, but only 2 km of the caves can be visited. After the amazing inspection of Gangland, the tour returns to Mérida where you arrive at 4 pm. According to the further course of your trip, you are brought to your hotel, the airport or the bus terminal.
