This 19-day Guatemala Tour leads you from Guatemala City to hichicastenango, Quetzaltengango, Antigua Guatemala and finally to Copan, Honduras. From there you continue your trip up to the North of Guatemala and to the famous Lake of Peten. During this extraordinary tour you will visit the most important archeological excavations of the Mayas and discover the unique landscape featuring unspoilt rain forests, lakes and volcanoes.

1. Day: Guatemala City

According to your time of arrival your private driver picks you up at the airport in Guatemala City and brings you to your hotel. Overnight stay.
2. Day: Guatemala City & Panajachel, Atitlan See

Your journey starts with a three-hour drive to Panajachel (120km), leading you through the picturesque higland towards the beautiful Lake Aitland that is surrounded by the three volcanoes San Pedro, Tolimán and Atitlán. En route you visit Iximché, the former capital of the Cakchiqueles. Overnight stay.
3. Day: Santiago Atitlan & San Antonio Palopo

Today starts with crossing a lake by boat in order to reach Santiago Atitlan, where you encounter the famous saint's figure of Maximón. Experience the original culture of the Tzutuhiles and continue to the Cakiquel village San Antonio Palopó, where you will join the festivities for St. Nicolas. The village is famous for its vegetable crops and precious weaving's art. Alternatively you have the option to visit the artist's village of San Pedro de la Luna. Afterwards you are brought back to your hotel at the lake. Overnight stay.
4. Day: Solola & Panajachel

After breakfast you are heading to the department capital Sololá that is situated about 600 meters above the lake. Here you visit the colourful Cakchiquel market and enjoy the special atmosphere. The afternoon is at your disposal; you can simply relax at the lake or in the tropical garden of your hotel or discover the vibrant city centre of Panajachel with its craft boutiques, galeries, restaurants and bars. Overnight stay.
5. Day: Panajachel & Chichicastenango

In the morning you visit the butterfly house, and on your way back to Sololá you make a short stopover to enjoy the breathtaking panorama view. Afterwards you continue to Chichicastenango, passing through an amazing scenery. The town is situated in Quiché territory and is named after a certain type of nettle. The city offers many interesting sights, like the sacrificial site Pasqual Abaj, offering traditional mask carving or the colorful graveyard. Overnight stay.
6. Day: Chichicastenango & Quetzaltenango

Today starts with the visit of the church Santo Tomas that has been built above the steps of a Mayan temple by Dominicans. Just like in acient pre-colombian times, brujos (wizards) sacrifice copal resin to the gods, together with mysterious litanies. Afterwards you enter the fray of the most famous and most original market in Guatemala. After lunch you continue along the curvy Panamericana to Quetzaltenango, the second largest city of Guatemala. Overnight stay.
7. Day: Quetzaltenango - Georginas & Zunil

In the morning you visit the historical center of Quetzalenango with the charming cathedral Espiritu Santo, the main square, the Palacio Municipal and the theatre. At noon you continue to the mineral springs Fuentes Georginas, where you shouldn't miss the opportunity to take a dip in the natural sulphur bath. Afterwards you are heading towards Zunil and Almolonga, where the best vegetables of the highlands are cultivated. Before heading back to Quetzaltenango, you visit a glazier´s workshop in Cantel. Overnight stay.
8. Day: Quetzaltenango & Antigua

Driving past several typical indigenous villages, you go back along the Panamericana until reaching the valley Panchoy, to get to Antigua. The former capital of the Spanish is one of the most beautiful colonial cities of Latin America, nestled in a gorgeous scenery of volcanoes. Overnight stay.
9. Day: Antigua Guatemala

Today is entirely dedicated to this city full of history, where countless witnesses of churches, convents and palaces tell about the prosperity of the colonial rule; as well as monumental ruins of the forces of nature giving an impression of the sharp downfall of the famous memorial. Overnight stay.
10. Day: Antigua & Copan

Today you leave the highlands with its medieval colonial history and are heading towards the dry valley Motaguatl. En route you cross the capital Guatemala City and the eastern foothills of the Sierra Madre. At the altitude of Zacapa, we branch off towards Honduras. After a drive past corn- and tobacco fields, you finally reach the sleepy frontier post El Florido. Now there are only a few kilometers left until you reach the provincial town of Copán. Overnight stay.
11. Day: Copan

After breakfast you visit the Mayan city Copán. Numerous well preserved and richly decorated altars and temples tell the dramatic story of 16 dynasties and famous monarchs. At the museum, beautiful sculptures and replicas of an entire temple from the akropolis' interior are displayed. In the afternoon you can relax at the hotel pool or discover the the little village of Copán Ruinas. Overnight stay.
12. Day: Copan - Quirigua & Flores

Today you are heading back Guatemala and continue along the river to Quiriguá and Flores at the Peten Lake. Overnight stay.
13. Day: Ceibal - Petexbatun

After breakfast you are off to Sayaxché, from where you will got to the archaeological excavation Ceibal by boat. It is situated in the middle of lush rainforest above the Rio de la Pasion. After having enjoyed a detailed guided tour, you drive back to Sayaxché and by boat along the Rio Petexbatun to the lake owning the same name. Overnight stay.
14. Day: Tikal
BUENOS DIAS MEXICO
Early in the morning you are heading towards Tikal to admire the size of the ample archaeologival site. Again and again new impressive pyramids and palaces will cross your path. You definitely shouldn't miss out on climbing up at least one of these divine constructions, seen that they provide you with an imposing, unique view over the whole area. After your visit, you continue to the Lake Yax Ha. Overnight stay.
15. - 18. Day: Peten Lake

Enjoy your last days at the beautiful lake. Here you can swim, enjoy the landscape by horseback, go on more excursions or simply relax.
(Alternatively you can catch a flight from Flores to Cancún on the 15th day to spend the last days at the heavenly Caribbean coast of Mexico)
19. Day: Peten Lake - Guatemala City
