Calling from the hotel phone is mostly very expensive. To do long distance calls in Mexico you are better off to get a telephone card sold in every phone shop and also in those little markets, the “tiendas” which are everywhere. If you have friends in Mexico get prepaid card of
TELCEL, which makes it a lot cheaper. Mexico is not missing out on phone booths. Most of them are situated closed to airports and bus stations. Nowadays there are even booths for credit cards. German mobile networks are no problem working in Mexico. You only need triband mobile phones and the use is very expensive. You even have to pay receiving a call.
Internet-Cafés are a dime a dozen in Mexico. Especially in bigger cities it’s not a problem at all to find a well equipped Internet-Café. Most of them have even cameras and headsets what provides a very cheap form of communication. The price per hour depends mostly on the amount of tourists at this area. It’s definitely worth to look for a Internet-Café which isn’t located closed to the hotel area for example at
