Whistle Stop Guadalajara – Tour Module

During this Mexico Tour Module you will explore the secret corners of Guadalajara and the city of Tequila, the birthplace of the national drink of the same name.

Day 1
Guadalajara

According to your flight´s or buses arrival, take a taxi (not included) on your own to the hotel in Guadalajara.

Afterwards, you will be taken on a bike ride through Guadalajara combined with a food tour. Experience the city from a unique perspective and discover the historical, cultural and architectural treasures Guadalajara has to offer. While cruising through the streets you will observe the elegance and stunning architecture which characterizes the capital city of Jalisco. The aristocratic architecture of such historical landmarks as the Cathedral, Arcos Vallarta and Hospicio Cabañas is quite impressive. Along the trip you will also stop to sample sume regional specialties of the region, including “Carne en su jugo – braised beef broth” and “tortas ahogadas – drowned sandwich”. Overnight stay. Day 2
Guachimontones – Tequila – Guadalajara

Today, you will drive west of the city. Your first stop will be the archeological site of Guachimontones. There you can enjoy a quick stop to discover the prehispanic cultures that flourished in this region from 400 BC. Learn about the cultural and mythological contribution of this archaeological site declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Afterwards continue to the town of Tequila. The place of Mexico’s most famous drink. You will drive to the towns of Tequila and Amatitan that are idyllically nestled between agave-covered hills. When visiting the traditional Tequila Distilleries you will learn more about the production process of the popular beverage. Of course, a tasting may not be missing. Enjoy lunch (not included) at a closed by restaurant where you can try local specialties. On the way back to Guadalajara make sure to stop at a local store where you can buy your souvenir bottle of tequila. To make the day perfect we will gladly make you a reservation at the famous restaurant “Casa Barianchi” where you can dine and listen to Mexico’s famous Mariachi Music. Enjoy a particularly unique dinner! After dinner take a taxi back to your hotel (not included, the restaurant will help you get a cab ). Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 3
Guadalajara – Tlaquepaque – Guadalajara 

After breakfast, head to the small neighbourhood of Tlaquepaque which has been swallowed up by the growing city. It has quaint tree lined streets and outdoor restaurants and is famous for its local artesenia and galleries. Many artists make Tlaquepaque their home, so you can find all kinds of art out of every material imaginable, such as potter’s clay, ceramic, wood, copper etc. as well as precious colonial antiquities.

Alternatively,we can organize you a painting class where you will go to a local Ceramic shop where you can choose a handmade pottery that you will paint. The shop is one of the oldest in the district and the family has passed this tradition on to the younger generation over a 100 years. The shop owner will explain you the different production processes and the history of the handicraft and then it’s your turn! Paint your favorite object with your very own styles. You will have approximately one hour to paint. The shop owner will then dry out your objects which is a process of 2 hours where you are free to explore other shops filled with art and handicrafts and soak up the atmosphere from a patio with a delicious margarita. Afterwards, return to the centro historico of Guadalajara. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 4
Guadalajara

Today you will get a heavy dose of some of the best street art Mexico’s second largest city has to offer. After breakfast your guide will pick you up for a walking tour in several colorful streets in Guadalajara. You will find out more about today’s street art and will understand why Guadalajara is uncommonly blessed with massive quantities of quality graffiti’s. Mexico has always been a country of artistically talented people that like to tell their stories in pictures. Find out what the mistery behind is and enjoy the colorful streets with their pretty painted walls. After the tour you will be brought back to your hotel.
