Day 1
Airport Cancún – Playa del Carmen

After arriving in Cancún, please pick up your luggage and go directly to the Rental Car Desk within the airport. They will arrange your transport to the Rental Car office where you will pick up your rental car. With the keys in your hand, you are off on your Yucatan adventure and can drive to your hotel on the Rivera Maya. Relax on the beach after a long day of travel and let your worries fade away with the sound of the waves. Overnight stay. (Meals: none)

Day 2
Playa del Carmen

Stroll along the colourful Quinta Avenida in search of a souvenir or spoil yourself with a delicious cocktail from one of the many beachside restaurants right on the white sandy beaches of Playa del Carmen. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 3
Playa del Carmen – Akumal – Playa del Carmen

Today, visit the nearby beach of Akumal where there is a sea turtle conservation center and where you can find sea turtles year round due to the abundant sea grass. Here, you can snorkel on the reef right from the beach. Explore the underwater world of tropical fish, coral and sea turtles. If you are lucky you may even see some babies making their way to the ocean (July-August is hatching season). Just outside of Akumal is also a monkey sanctuary where you can enjoy a visit with these unique animals that have been rescued from the area. Afterwards, drive to your hotel in Tulum. Day 4
Tulum – Playa del Carmen – Tulum – Muyil – Bacalar

In the morning continue to Tulum. Explore these spectacular ruins which are situated on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Afterwards take a refreshing dip in the beautiful blue water. Continue to the famous Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sian Ka’an. This is home to 385 species of birds and 103 endangered species. The tropical rainforest, mangrove swamps and pristine beaches are located on over 5000 square kilometers of untouched nature. Visit the archaeological sites of Muyil and Chunyaxché which were ancient Mayan trading centers located on the edge of the Sian Ka’an lagoon. Enjoy a boat tour (not included) of the wetlands and unique mangroves of the lagoon. Observe the flora and fauna of the region and stop to swim in the crystal clear turquoise water and float down a freshwater canal surounded by mangroves. Afterwards, continue to your hotel in Bacalar. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Bacalar

Today, meet your captain on the pier of Rancho Encantado for an exciting boat tour of the Lagoon. We don´t want to give away too much, but you will have the opportunity to admire the local flora and fauna of the freshwater lagoon. Many bird and reptile species are native to this region due to the unique ecosystem. You will explore a unique cenote and don´t miss out on the mud bath! Afterwards, you will be returned to the pier and can enjoy the rest of the day at the hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 6
Bacalar – Cacchoben – Uxmal

After breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Chacchoben which was an important trade link between Maya cities on the Yucatan Peninsula. Far away from the masses of tourists at other sites, these ruins have a mysterious atmosphere and can be explored uninterupted. Continue to your jungle hotel beside the archaeological site of Uxmal. Uxmal – Chocolate Museum – Mérida

After breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Uxmal, which is the Yucatan’s most important archeological excavation, apart from Chichén Itzá. The architecture of Uxmal is an example of that present in the Puuc region. The temples have smooth low walls which represent traditional Maya huts and many figures of the rain god Chaac. Afterwards, stop at the uniquely interactive Choco-story Museum beside the archaeological site of Uxmal. Cacao was an important ingredient for the Maya culture and this museum celebrates the history and uses of this delicious ingredient. Enjoy a sample of the traditional chocolate drink as well as a Maya ceremony led by a local Sack´be. Continue to your hotel in Mérida. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 8
Hacienda Sotuta de Peon – Mérida

After breakfast, visit the the Hacienda Sotuta de Peon which is the only Hacienda in the region still producing hennequen using rebuilt antique machinery. Hop aboard a wooden platform pulled by mules along cauville rails for a tour of the grounds. You will stop at the cenote Zhul Ha where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters. Visit the main house which has been restored to its former glory and opulance of the era. Enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant (optional) where you can also relax by the pool and enjoy the atmosphere filled with history and colonial architecture. At the end of the day return to Mérida. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Calcehtok Caves – Chochola – Mérida

ACTIVE TOUR

Today, you will be picked up from your hotel in Mérida to visit the largest cave system in the Yucatán. From here, you will begin your hike to the impressive rock formations of the Calcehtok Caves. After arriving, you will first have a small snack and refreshment (included). Then, you will explore the caves and descend into the spectacular underground world of the Maya. This site was once considered a refugee and a ceremonial center of the Maya. After your hike, continue towards the village of Chochola. On the way there, stop at a cenote where you should not miss a quick dip into the cool turquoise water. Arriving in Chochola, you have the opportunity to refresh yourself in another cenote, relax with your local guide and strengthen yourself with a tasty regional lunch (included). Afterwards, you will be returned to your hotel in Mérida. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 10
Mérida – Celestún – Mérida

Today will be a day of pure nature and relaxation. In the morning, head to Celestún Beach where you can observe one of the most extensive flamingo colonies during a boat trip (not included) through the unique mangrove swamps. Enjoy your free afternoon to take a stroll and experience the amazing flora and fauna, relax on the beautiful beach or let one of the famous restaurants spoil you with delicious seafood. Afterwards, you return to your hotel in Mérida. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Mérida – Izamal – Chichén Itzá – Cenote Dzitnup – Cancún

This morning you start in Mérida and make your first stop in Izamal. Visit in the small colonial town, which consists mainly of yellow painted colonial buildings and the old beautiful Franciscan monastery. Afterwards, make your way to the world famous archaeological site of Chichén Itzá. In 1988, the ancient Mayan city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in 2007 declared one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Let yourself be fascinated by the imposing, architecturally impressive buildings of the Mayas and admire, among other things, the famous pyramid of Kukulcán, which as a whole is a calendar turned to stone, and the huge ball court. Afterwards, your next stop is the cenote Dzitnup, where you can take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear turquoise water. Cenotes are natural phenomenon unique to the region and held importance for maya culture. Enjoy a swim while admiring the limestone stalactites overhead. Continue to your connecting hotel in Cancún/Playa del Carmen/Tulum. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

  • We reserve the right to make any amendments to the itinerary as long as the amendments are not essential to the rest of the tour.
  • Please note that the Rental Car agreement is a contract between the renter and the rental car company. Buenos Días Mexico acts solely as a Travel Agent and cannot guarantee short term changes on the part of the service provider nor do they assume responsibility for damages. Please check the emergency numbers which are on your contract signed with the rental car company in case of accidents.
  • Since The rental car company charges a security deposit for each car rental which increases depending on category (600-2500 USD approx), usually 10% of the car value. A credit card is needed with a validity of at least one year and a sufficient limit to cover this deposit.
  • The rental car needs to be returned to the rental car offices as specified in the itinerary. It is not possible to leave the rental car at the hotel. Upon request the rental car company may offer a transfer to the hotel once the rental car is returned. This transfer cannot be guaranteed as it depends on the availability of the company shuttle.
  • All distance is approximated and Buenos Dias Mexico assumes no liability.
  • GPS systems and baby seats cannot be confirmed in advance and are subject to availability when the vehicle is picked up.
