Colonial Treasures – Tour module

During this Mexico Tour Module follow the tracks of the Spanish Conquistadors and the Mexican revolution throughout the most beautiful and historical colonial cities of Mexico while learning about the history of the Spanish “Conquista“.

Day 1
Arrival in Mexico City

According to your time of arrival you are picked up from the airport in Mexico City and brought to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: none)

Day 2
Mexico City – Morelia – Pátzcuaro

After breakfast, you will be picked up to begin your colonial adventure. The first stop is Morelia which is the capital of Michoacán and probably the most aristocratic of all the colonial cities in Mexico. In 1991, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its outstandingly well-kept buildings and historical center. Explore the cobblestone streets of the main plazas as well as the breathtakingly beautiful Cathedral built with rose stone, the impressive mansions and the well-established University. Morelia is said to be a true gem among the colonial cities. Enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Morelia along with a delicious local lunch (not included) before heading to Pátzcuaro where you can enjoy a quiet evening. Overnight stay. Day 3
Pátzcuaro – Guadalajara

After breakfast, explore the small quaint town of Pátzcuaro. Known for its white buildings and tiled roofs it has a charming and authentic ambiance. You visit the most important spots and if you are lucky, you may come across a local market. You also explore the Isla Janitzio which is a small island on the lake and if famous for its Day of the Dead celebrations as well as a 40 ft statue of Morelos. After your city tour you continue to Guadalajara which is known for its traditions and uniquely Mexican culture. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 4
Guadalajara – Tequila – Guadalajara

Today, you will visit the magical town of Tequila. Discover the origins of Mexico’s national drink, explore the most representatives distilleries in Mexico and admire the natural blue agave landscape declared by UNESCO a world Heritage site. Find out exactly how the blue agave is sown, grown, harvested and distilled. Afterwards, explore the city center where you will visit, amongst other things, the Palace, the famous murals on the former Hospiz Cabañas building, as well as the Cathedral, the Regional Museum and the largest market in Guadalajara. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 5
Guadalajara – Tlaquepaque – Guanajuato

After breakfast, head to the small neighbourhood of Tlaquepaque which has been swallowed up by the growing city. It has quaint tree lined streets and outdoor restaurants and is famous for its local artesenia and galleries. Explore the shops filled with art and handicrafts and soak up the atmosphere from a patio with a delicious margarita. Afterwards, continue to Guanajuato. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 6
Guanajuato

Today you will explore the beautiful mining town Guanajuato. Guanajuato is a unique colonial town filled with tiny cobblestone streets and winding alleyways. Visit the Cathedral, the University, Diego Rivera´s birthplace, the famous kissing alley and take a trip high up to the Pipila Monument for a spectacular view of the city. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 7
Guanajuato – San Miguel de Allende – Querétaro – Mexico City

Today, continue on to San Miguel de Allende which is also well-known as the “the City of Artists”. Visit the original and impressive Neo-gothic church made out of beautiful rose-pink stone which is also the landmark of the city. Then visit the Ignacio de Allende Museum, the birthplace of the Mexican freedom hero and the Mercado de Artesenia. Afterwards, continue to the beautiful colonial town Querétaro which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among other sites, you will visit the beautiful Plaza de la Independencia, the Convento de la Cruz, the famous Aqueduct of Querétaro and the Casa de la Marquesa, the most beautiful colonial mansion of the city. Learn all about the local history and legends of this authentic colonial town before you are returned to Mexico City. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)
