Snorkel Akumal & Cenote

On this Mexico daytrip you snorkel in the coral reef off Akumal with turtles, as well as in the crystal clear Cenote Azul.

Tour description:

In the morning, make your way to the meeting point where you will be picked up and taken to one of the beautiful cenotes which are unique to the Yucatán peninsula and were important sites for traditions and rituals of the Maya. Admire the stalagmites and stalactites while snorkeling or swimming in the cristal clear turquoise water. Afterwards you will continue to Akumal where your guide will explain the sea turtle conservation efforts of the region and where you can observe the baby turtles. Sea turtles are found in the bay year round because of the abundant sea grass, but between May and September several hundred turtles come to the beaches of Akumal to lay their eggs. To protect them, they are collected by biologists and monitored until hatching. Finally, you will get the chance to snorkel alongside the sea turtles and also discover the colourful fish and underwater world of the reef just offshore. Enjoy some free time to relax on the beach or have a cool refreshing drink before being returned to the meeting point. Depending on the location of the turtles you will either visit Akumal or a nearby reef to maximize your time spent snorkeling with these friendly sea creatures.

Since nature is unpredictable, we cannot guarantee how many turtles will be seen on the snorkelling tour. The best time is between May/June and August/September, though the turtles are in the region year round.
