Today we present a classic recipe from the Mexican kitchen: CEVICHE. Ceviche is a delicious fish dish that is known not only in Mexico, but also in many other countries in Latin America. It is very popular and very healthy. This recipe is designed for approx. 6 servings. Here we go.

Ingredients:

  • 375 g white fish fillet
  • 1/3 onion
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • 2-3 roma tomatoes
  • 3 jalapeño peppers
  • ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro (coriander) leaving some for decoration
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 avocado
  • Tortillas or tostadas served on the side

Preparation:

Ceviche

First the fish is washed, any bones removed and cut into small cubes. Then put the cubes together with the onion, lime juice and orange juice in a bowl and place them covered in the fridge for about 4 hours. Just before serving, let the juice drain from the bowl. Then add the tomatoes, spices and olive oil and stir well. The avocado is also cut into small cubes and added to the mix. Finally, pour everything into small bowls and garnish with the coriander leaves. Finished!

As everyone knows, tastes are different, so feel free to experiment with the list of ingredients. For example, you can add garlic or ginger, vegetables such as corn or celery or even mango for a sweeter, tropical flavour. Many times (sweet) potatoes are used as a side dish. White fish is traditionally used for ceviche, but it is also delicious with salmon.

Buen Provecho!
