Copper Canyon – Tour Module

Explore the impressive natural spectacles in the copper canyon between Chihuahua and Los Mochis. You take the famous train, the Chepe, from one station to another and get to know the highlights of Creel, Divisadero, Bahuichivo, Cerocahui and El Fuerte. Breathtaking viewpoints and the fascinating Tarahumara culture await you.

Day 1
Arrival in Chihuahua

Upon your arrival in Chihuahua, you will be picked up at the airport and taken to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a guided tour of the city, where you will get to know the most important sights of the city. Overnight stay. (Meals: none)

Day 2
Chihuahua – Creel

Today you will be picked up from your hotel around 5:15 am and taken to the train station, where “El Chepe” and your journey through the spectacular copper canyon will start at 6:00 am. The first stop of your trip is in Creel, a small lumberjack village, where you arrive at around 11.35 a.m. and are brought to the hotel. After a short break, you will go on an excursion on which you will get to know the beautiful Arareko Lake and marvel at impressive rock formations in the shape of mushrooms and frogs in the Valle de los Hongos y de las Ranas. Then visit the small Jesuit village of San Ignacio with the mission church of the same name and an inhabited Tarahumara cave dwelling. You will then be taken back to your hotel. Overnight stay. Day 3
Creel – Divisadero

Today you have time to have breakfast in peace and to stroll a bit through Creel before you go on a land transfer to Barrancas. Around noon you reach the famous gorge viewpoint of “Barranca del Cobre” in Divisadero, which is located in the Sierra Madre Tarahumara and goes down to 1,200 meters. In the afternoon around 4 p.m. you start a guided walk of around two hours along the canyon from the hotel. On this tour you can enjoy incredible views and learn more about the lifestyle of the legendary Tarahumara Indians, who are also at home here. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 4
Divisadero – Bahuichivo – Cerocahui

Today it is advisable to get up early to take the OPTIONAL sunrise hike. After breakfast you will be picked up at the hotel and brought to the viewpoint of “La Piedra Volada” (currently the flying stone), where you can enjoy a breathtaking view. Then you continue to the “Parque de Aventuras Barrancas del Cobre”, where you can take the “Teleferico” cable car down to the valley. Around noon your journey continues with a land transfer to Bahuichivo. After arriving at 2:15 p.m., you will be picked up and driven to your hotel in the village of Cerocahui, about 35 minutes away. On the way you will encounter unusual rock formations. After you arrive at the hotel, we recommend visiting the girls’ boarding school for Tarahumara children. Overnight stay. TIP!

RECOMMENDATION:

For those who are particularly adventurous, we recommend the “Via Ferrata”, where you cross the canyon over numerous wooden suspension bridges. Or “fly” from platform to platform over a total of 7 zip lines covering 5,000 meters. It is even said to be the largest zip line in Latin America. Depending on the weight, a speed of 65-95 km / h can be achieved. This activity can be booked through us or directly on site.

Day 5
Cerocahui – El Fuerte

This morning you will take a 3-hour tour to the impressive “Cerro del Gallego” viewpoint, which offers the best view of the Urique Canyon in the entire area. Then, at 2:15 p.m., take the train to El Fuerte, a beautiful colonial city on the Pacific coast and historically one of the most important and interesting cities in northern Mexico. This part of the route is considered by many to be the most spectacular, as it leads over the almost 500 meter long “Agua Caliente” bridge and through an almost 2 kilometer long tunnel. You arrive in El Fuerte around 6 p.m. and are brought to the hotel. Overnight stay.(Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 6
El Fuerte

Today it is time to say goodbye and “Adíos” say to Mexico, a beautiful, colorful and exciting country with its very special, hospitable and cheerful people. We hope you had a wonderful trip. Depending on how your journey continues, today you will be taken to Los Mochis Airport or to Topolobambo Harbor. Overnight stay.(Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

  • Traveling in small groups: Please note that day tours in small groups require some patience, flexibility and understanding, because each group has its own dynamic. The group may also stop at souvenir shops and markets.
  • We reserve the right to make any changes to the itinerary, as long as they are insignificant for the entire travel planning.
  • This journey through the copper canyon is an absolute individual journey and requires a lot of initiative. All excursions are included, but are organized on site by the respective hotels and take place with local guides. They often speak very poor English and are responsible for giving a small impression and organizing the transport.
  • The CHEPE is usually on time, especially when it leaves Chihuahua and Los Mochis at 6 a.m. It only stops for the boarding and disembarking of the train guests, the name of the stops is given by the train staff about 10 minutes before arrival. Stopping times are usually ignored. Even at the stop in Divisadero Barrancas, we kindly ask you to clarify the 15-minute stay with your train staff. If you are within the copper canyons and continue with the CHEPE, please pay careful attention to the times and instructions of the hoteliers and staff at the respective train stations.
  • CHEPE tickets are non-refundable and cannot be changed. In this case, Buenos Días México only acts as a travel agent and assumes no responsibility for delays or cancellations on the part of the railway company.
