Mérida – Maya Cooking Class

On this Mexico daytrip you first buy your exotic ingredients on one of the typical markets before you will be introduced to the traditional culinary arts of Mexican gastronomy, which due to its diversity is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tour description:

Today is devoted to food! Since 2010, Mexican gastronomy has been on the UNESCO Intangible World Cultural Heritage list. On this delicious tour you will enjoy the culinary highlights of the Yucatán and learn how to prepare traditional dishes together with a Mayan family.

Make your way to the meeting point in the lobby of the Hotel Caribe.

Before you begin cooking, head to the colourful local Lucas de Galvez market where you will find all the necessary ingredients. You will also learn about and taste the local fruits, vegetables, chillies etc which are cultivated only in Yucatán. Afterwards, take a public bus together with your chef to your cooking course in the warm atmosphere of a private kitchen. Now you are ready to cook. There is so much to learn, not only about the individual ingredients you use during the preparation, but also the related traditions and cultures of the Yucatán and Mayan culture. You will make the main course, dessert and even your drinks. Afterwards, there is plenty of time to eat all of your hard work and chat with your chef while learning a few words of Spanish or even Maya. Finally, you will be taken back to either the historical center of Merida or your hotel in a taxi or uber (included in the cost of the tour).
