On this Mexico daytrip through the beautiful Sierra Norte you learn all about indigenous medicine and you can be spiritually cleaned at the end of your hiking tour.
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Oaxaca. After an hour drive you are in the mountains of the Sierra Norte and can start your trek to Cuajimoloyas. The Zapotec mountain village is part of the Pueblos Mancomunados. These are six allied villages that have created tourism infrastructure which has become an important new source of income over the past twenty years. The focus of your hiking tour is the traditional, indian medicine, which is still practiced diligently here. You will get to know the different medicinal herbs which are explained to you by your guide. The hike will lead you through the Coyote Pass to a spectacular viewpoint. After about four hours you will reach the village again and will have the opportunity to experience the “Doña Lepa” ritual cleaning. Afterwards, you will be taken back to your hotel in Oaxaca.
