Day 1
Airport Cancún – Tulum

After arriving in Cancún, please pick up your luggage and go directly to the Rental Car Desk within the airport. They will arrange your transport to the Rental Car office where you will pick up your rental car. With the keys in your hand, you are off on your Quintana Roo adventure and can drive to your hotel in Tulum. Relax on the beach after a long day of travel and let your worries fade away with the sound of the waves. Overnight stay. (Meals: none)

Day 2
Tulum

Enjoy a relaxing day on the beautiful beaches Mexico has to offer! Soak up the warm Mexican sun and enjoy some fresh seafood from a local restaurant. Disconnect from the world and let your worries fade away with the soothing sounds of the ocean. If you would like to take part in some exciting day trip´s we are happy to help. Overnight stay. Day 3
Tulum – Akumal – Yal Kú Lagoon – Aktun Chen Nature Park – Tulum

Today, visit the nearby beach of Akumal where there is a sea turtle conservation center and where you can find sea turtles year round due to the abundant sea grass. Here, you can snorkel on the reef right from the beach. Explore the underwater world of tropical fish, coral and sea turtles. If you are lucky you may even see some babies making their way to the ocean (July-August is hatching season). Continue to the Yal Kú Laguna (Paradise Lagoon) which is an open air cenote filled with marine life. Enjoy some time swimming and snorkelling in the pristine nature. Afterwards, head to the Aktun Chen Nature Park where you can combine adrenaline and nature while using ziplines, exploring underground river systems and caves. Day 4
Tulum – Cenote Dos Ojos – Tulum

Today, stop at the unique ruins of Tulum. This archaeological site is located on a cliff overlooking the turquoise ocean below. Explore the many ruins and afterwards relax and soak up the warm Mexican sun on the beach below where you can take a refreshing dip in the ocean. Continue to the Cenote Dos Ojos which is a unique natural phenomenon found in the region. These underground rivers and caves were very important to Maya tradition and culture and have a mysterious atmosphere. Admire the stalactites and stalagmites overhead while swimming in the clear water. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 5
Tulum – Muyil – Bacalar

Today, head to the famous Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sian Ka’an. This is home to 385 species of birds and 103 endangered species. The tropical rainforest, mangrove swamps and pristine beaches are located on over 5000 square kilometers of untouched nature. Visit the archaeological sites of Muyil and Chunyaxché which were ancient Mayan trading centers located on the edge of the Sian Ka’an lagoon. Enjoy a boat tour (not included) of the wetlands and unique mangroves of the lagoon. Observe the flora and fauna of the region and stop to swim in the crystal clear turquoise water and float down a freshwater canal surounded by mangroves. Afterwards, continue to your hotel in Bacalar. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 6
Bacalar

Today, meet your captain on the pier of Rancho Encantado for an exciting boat tour of the Lagoon. We don´t want to give away too much, but you will have the opportunity to admire the local flora and fauna of the freshwater lagoon. Many bird and reptile species are native to this region due to the unique ecosystem. You will explore a unique cenote and don´t miss out on the mud bath! Afterwards, you will be returned to the pier and can enjoy the rest of the day at the hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 7
Bacalar

Enjoy a free day at the Bacalar Lagoon. Take a kayak or paddleboard out into the lagoon on your own and explore the crystal clear waters and the local wildlife. Visit the San Felipe fort which was built in 1729 after the town was sacked by pirates and enjoy some delicious seafood in a local restaurant. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 8
Bacalar – Cobá – Cenote Dzitnup – Valladolid

After breakfast, visit the pyramid of Cobá. Explore the ruins and hike through the jungle on small path until you reach the largest temple. Climb to the top of the Nohoch Mul pyramid for a fantastic view of the jungle canopy. Afterwards, continue to the cenotes of Samula and Dzitnup. These are both closed cenotes where you can enjoy a dip in the crystal clear turquoise water while admiring the limestone formations overhead. Cenotes were important points of ritual and tradition in the Maya culture. Continue to the small colonial town of Valladolid. Explore the cobblestone streets and visit the breathtaking Convent of San Bernardino de Siena built between 1552 and 1560 as well as the main plaza while learning all about the Yucatan´s history. Valladolid was built atop a Maya city and many of the buildings were made from rocks of destroyed pyramids and temples. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 9
Valladolid – Chichén Itzá – Cenote Yokdzonot – Valladolid

In the morning, make your way to Chichén Itzá, the world’s most famous, well preserved and magnificently restored archaeological site which is now one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. There, you can admire the monumental Kukulkán pyramid, which is also known as “El Castillo” and a variety of other impressive constructions this magical place has to offer. Afterwards you stop at a cenote the Yucatán peninsula is famous for and where you should not miss out on a quick dip in the crystal clear turquoise water. Around the Cenote you can find a still typical yucatecan Mayan village, which, with the support of the government, maintains the water hole, looks after the small restaurant and thus ensures the income of the inhabitants. Afterwards, you return to your hotel in Valladolid. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 10
Valladolid – Rio Lagartos – Ek Balam – Valladolid

Today, you head very early to Rio Lagartos where you can enjoy a boat trip (not included) through the lagoon and magroves. This nature reserve is still untouched and your captain will point out the unique flora and fauna of the region such as flamingos, eagles, herons, geese, pelicans and if you are lucky even crocodiles! Afterwards, stop at Mexico’s second-largest salt factory. On a sunny day you can enjoy a traditional mud bath on the beach and admire the unique pink hue of the water. Continue to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch (not included). From here your journey continues to the beautiful and yet not overly-excavated site of Ek Balam. This is one of the few Mayan settlements inhabited until the arrival of the Spaniards. It stretches over twelve square kilometers and has a large square central area where the elite lived. Explore the ruins and finally have a short visit to a small Mayan village before going back to your hotel. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Valladolid – Chiquilá – Holbox

Today, drive to the pier in Chiquilá where you will leave your rental car in a secure parking lot and catch the ferry (tickets not included) over to Holbox. Once on the island, take a taxi (on your own) to your hotel on the isolated beaches of the island. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Day 12
Cabo Catoche – Holbox

Cabo Catoche where the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea meet. Along the way you can admire the wild dolphins swimming in the ocean and the kilometers of pristine unspoilt beaches. The area is also famous for its abundant underwater world. Begin the day with a fishing adventure where you will catch some fresh local fish to be used for your ceviche lunch later on. Then get into the water with your guide who will take you on a snorkeling tour of the region. There is a 2m deep cave to explore, the colourful coral hiding all kinds of tropical fish and wildlife. If you are lucky, you may see octopus, lobsters and hawkbill turtles. Enjoy some free time to explore the area on your own. Afterwards, you will return to the mainland for a delicous lunch of freshly made ceviche before you are returned to your hotel (when the tides are high, you will be taken through the mangroves). Holbox

Enjoy the day on the spectacular beaches of the small, car-free island of Holbox. It is a natural paradise with white sandy beaches, turquoise water, mangroves and it is also known for its spectacular sunsets. Rent a bike, ride a horse, snorkel with whale sharks (may-sept) or take a boat trip to the surrounding little islands and lagoons. Stroll through the colorful downtown and enjoy some delicious seafood fresh from the ocean or just relax in a hammock and let your mind wander. Overnight stay. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Holbox – Chiquilá – Airport Cancún

According to your departure time you take an Island taxi (Golf cart) and are brought to the port. Here you will buy your ferry tickets and take the ferry to Chiquilá by yourself. Upon arrival you will pick up your car again and continue to the Cancún airport where you will return your rental car. Please ask there for a free transport to your departure Terminal. (Meals: breakfast at the hotel)

Important information:
  • We reserve the right to make any amendments to the itinerary as long as the amendments are not essential to the rest of the tour.
  • Please note that the Rental Car agreement is a contract between the renter and the rental car company. Buenos Días Mexico acts solely as a Travel Agent and cannot guarantee short term changes on the part of the service provider nor do they assume responsibility for damages. Please check the emergency numbers which are on your contract signed with the rental car company in case of accidents.
  • Since The rental car company charges a security deposit for each car rental which increases depending on category (600-2500 USD approx), usually 10% of the car value. A credit card is needed with a validity of at least one year and a sufficient limit to cover this deposit.
  • The rental car needs to be returned to the rental car offices as specified in the itinerary. It is not possible to leave the rental car at the hotel. Upon request the rental car company may offer a transfer to the hotel once the rental car is returned. This transfer cannot be guaranteed as it depends on the availability of the company shuttle.
  • All distance is approximated and Buenos Dias Mexico assumes no liability.
  • GPS systems and baby seats cannot be confirmed in advance and are subject to availability when the vehicle is picked up.
  • Hotel selection is subject to availability. If the aforementioned accommodations are fully booked or over booked, Buenos Dias Mexico reserves the right to replace them with equivalent hotels.
  • All of the hotels will be booked in a country specific category which does not always correspond to the international standard. Please note that there is no official hotel certification system in Mexico.
  • Please note that the price of the hotel category corresponds to a 3 star hotel (standard). On request we can also book a 4 bw hotel for you. 5 star category.
  • Small group travel: Please keep in mind that day trips with small groups often requires patience and understanding, because every group has a certain dynamic. Sometimes the group stops at souvenir shops and markets.
  • High Season Travelling (Christmas / New Year’s and Easter holidays): Travelling in Mexico during high seasons presents some exceptional conditions. This means that there may be delays, overbookings and longer waiting times at museums or archaeological sites. We try our best to assure that all services are carried out as confirmed but especially in the states of Chiapas and Yucatan small groups can sometimes convert to larger groups.
